IntroductionIs Jesus the Messiah? No doubt, you have an opinion already. I’m not going to ask you for the benefit of the doubt, just for to consider that it might not be impossible for the most popular religious figure of all time might be what he claims. Some in the past have said that Old Testament (or Tenac) is no longer valid, or if there are parts that contradict the New Testament, they must be textual distortions. This is not my argument. In fact, I assume that the Jewish readers of this book accept the Old Testament or Tenac as being the inspired Word of God. If you search hard enough, you will find that the verses that seem to contradict can be explained by understanding that there is some symbolic meaning in at least one of the texts. There have been some who teach that the Law no longer hold true, but this is not what the New Testament teaches. To quote the New Testament, there is no grace without the Law. As for the Oral Law, I think we should keep in mind that it was made oral in the beginning to prevent its own weight from becoming equal with the scriptures, for it was not inspired by God. It was transmitted orally for hundreds of years before being written down. Since I intend to prove that the New Testament is the inspired word of God, it would take precedence over the word of man. There is much wisdom in the Oral Tradition, so it shouldn’t be ignored or thrown away. Why would anyone who is happy with being Jewish even consider that Jesus is the Messiah? If Jesus is the Messiah, he isn’t only a prophet, but the most important prophet of all time. He is the fulfilling of the whole of the Old Testament and Law. Moses gives us a test for the prophet in Deuteronomy 18:15-22: 15. The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16. According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17. And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? 22. When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. And also in Deuteronomy 13:1-3: 1. If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2. And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3. Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. We know if a prophet is from God because of two things. 1.He does not say to worship other gods. 2. Because he foretells the future. Jesus wouldn’t be disqualified on the first account because he isn’t saying that he is another god, he says he is God. There are those who claim that because Jesus died, he was not a prophet. Indeed, which prophets live? It wasn’t as if Jesus was struck down with lightning as he spoke. Didn’t Zechariah and Sampson have similar fates? Let’s look at a prophecy from the Old Testament and a prophecy from Jesus that seem to contradict. Ezekiel 36:10: 10. And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded: Historically, this refers to the restoration of the Jewish people to Israel. This is also clearly a reference to the present time and this has been fulfilled in the past century. Jesus said in Matthew 11:20-24: 20. Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: 21. Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. 23. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. Jesus cursed these three cities. If both of the passages were God’s Word, Jesus’ statements about the three cities would be clarifications of the previous promise of restoration of all the cities of Israel. If Jesus isn’t a prophet, why hasn’t God restored these cities to Israel? Not only do you have the direct fulfilling of a prophecy of Jesus, it is at odds with the prophecy of God. Have you read how God dealt with Baal and the other gods? If Jesus wasn’t a prophet, would the God of Heaven allow it to seem that he has fulfilled a prophecy in direct opposition with his own prophet and the Law of Moses? Open your hearts and hear the truth. I have searched for all of the reasons that people say Jesus isn’t the Messiah, and I have answers for all of these. May God above bless you in reading this book. I hope that you get something from this book, even if you do not agree with me. I hope none of you is offended because I say the forms of God’s name, but do we honor God more by hiding his name or shouting it from the rooftops? |
